State Fair of Texas

If you live in the state of Texas you know that the state fair every fall is a huge deal. It's so famous that Oprah even filmed a show there a few years back. The big draw is all the fried food. You can literally find any edible item in a fried version. 

I happened to be in Dallas on the fair's final day so my parents and I decided to go.

It was SO crowded. Like more crowded than Times Square on New Years Eve crowded. It was hard to walk anywhere. 

We did have to brave the crowd (and the extremely long line) for a Fletcher's corny dog. You can't go to the state fair of Texas and not have a corny dog. It's the law.

You also have to take a photo with Big Tex. Also a law. This year was the debut of a new Big Tex after the last one caught fire last year. 

We stopped trying to walk around and found an open table in the wine garden. So we set up base camp and wandered out to get more food every so often.

Here is a round up of some of the things we tried. Clockwise from upper left we have tator twisters, fried spinach and artichoke dip, funnel cake, and fried chocolate coverd strawberries. 

All in all it was a fun and successful day at the fair.

Shelby's Birthday | Part One

We always go all out for our birthdays. We usually make it into a weekend or week long celebration. This year was no different for my 21st birthday. Ashley was still out of town, so I was told by two of my best friends Marielis and Daniella to be ready by 10:30 for a surprise with them. Little did I know that this was a surprise that had been planned for months and that Ashley was a part of it.

We ended up down in TriBeCa at one of my favorite restaurants, Sarabeth's. As soon as we got there, out pops Chandler and Allix with balloons and confetti! I had no idea that they would be there, and it was such a fantastic surprise.

Marielis and Daniella had bought me my own tiara just so I could feel like a princess. They all know me so well. Here's hoping Prince Harry doesn't get engaged so I actually have a chance!

On the ride home we got asked a lot if we were part of a bachelorette party!

I felt like such a princess! Definitely a successful first day of birthday celebrations!

Concert Update!

It's no surprise how into music Ashley and I are. We have gone to a couple of concerts in the past couple weeks.

Bastille

I met up with Allix, Daniella, and Marielis to go see Bastille at Bowery Ballroom. It was such a fun night amidst all of our stress with midterms coming up. Bastille is a indie/alternative/rock band from the UK. It is definitely worth it to check them out. We have been big fans of theirs for awhile, but they just dropped their album here in the U.S. You might have heard their song Pompeii on the radio. I was fortunate enough to buy their C.D. while I was over in the  UK earlier this year. It is definitely a must buy.

During one of the songs the lead singer, Dan, came into the audience and sang his song from there. He walked right up to us. It was such a cool moment.

The 1975

The 1975 is an indie/rock band from Manchester, England. They have been together for ten years, but have not been fortunate enough to release an album until last month. We discovered them at the beginning of this year and have been in love ever since. Their self titled album is absolutely brilliant. I met up with Allix for their show and it was perfect. We met a guy who works for them at the show, and he told us where to go afterwards so we could meet the band. It was a perfect night!

The band were playing two nights at the Bowery Ballroom. We went the first night, and were so sad that we were missing the second night, so Allix and I bought last minute tickets and met up with our friend Kendal to see the boys again!

Switchfoot

My second night seeing The 1975, Ashley and Ethan headed off to see Switchfoot at the Gramercy Theatre. They have both been a big fan of the band for awhile, and Ashley saw them in concert when she was at Baylor. Switchfoot is an alternative rock band from San Diego. You might know one of their iconic songs "Dare You To Move". Ashley and Ethan had a great night.

The Hamptons | Day Three

On our last day in The Hamptons we went out to Harbes Family Farm for a fun fall day.

Apple Picking!

We have so many apples now we have no idea what to do with them.

After apple picking we ventured into the corn maze!

It was actually so much harder than I expected it to be, but it was so much fun. A perfect way to ring in fall.

We dragged mom a long through the maze.

After the maze we took a hayride through the pumpkin patch.

Picking out pumpkins. Mom wanted this one so bad. She decided against it. She didn't think holding a pumpkin on her lap for a three hour plane ride was the best idea.

Our apartment now looks like fall with all of our pumpkins!

As a lot of you probably already know Ashley and I are obsessed with all things Target. Since we had a car for the weekend, of course we were going to take advantage of stopping. We had two buggies full of stuff. Oops!

Trying to fit everything in the car was a bit of a challenge.

At least the ride home was comfortable!

Back to reality. Back to NYC!

The Hamptons | Day Two

Day two was a very busy day for us, but it was definitely worth it. We started off with a wine tasting at Duckwalk Vineyards.

Why yes we do go to wine tastings at 11:00 A.M. Wine is the best breakfast right?

Across the street from the winery was a small farm that had massive pumpkin patches. I'm pretty sure I acted like a 5 year old child while there. What can I say...I love fall. I just get so excited!

Obviously had to take pictures with the massive pumpkins.

Coincidentally daddy had his "pumpkin" shirt on. He wasn't as enthralled with the pumpkins as we were.

How cute are my parents with their converse! So glad they joined the converse club.

My first time at a vineyard. Many more pictures like this to come in November!

After our wine and pumpkins we drove about an hour out to Montauk, which is the farthest point east on long island. The main attraction is this gorgeous lighthouse.

DA BEACH!

We stopped off for lunch at The Lobster Roll. This was dad's favorite part of the trip. All he could talk about was getting his lobster sandwich.

It seems I got a little tired on our drive to Sag Harbor.

Sag Harbor is a cute town on the bay. It was so fun to walk around and see all of the local culture.

We took a seat out by the water with our coffee for about an hour. It was so peaceful just staring at the water.

This is probably my favorite picture from the entire trip!

Before checking in for the night we stopped off in SouthHampton for a bit of shopping. What a gorgeous little town that is.
